If you live in a region that gets cold enough for you to have a furnace that you will be turning on to stay warm, you will want to have HVAC maintenance performed each year. It is best to do this before you turn on the furnace for the first time for the winter, but it is never too late to get the services needed. Here are some of the things that you may want to consider doing in order to keep your HVAC system in good shape and to have as few problems as possible this winter:
Have The Filter Changed
One thing that you can do yourself is replace the old furnace filter with a brand new one. If your furnace actually uses a reusable filter, then you need to remove it, clean it, let it completely dry, and then insert it back into the furnace. If you are unable to do this on your own, possibly due to limited mobility or experience, you can always hire an HVAC company to do it for you. This is something you can request that they do when you have them come out for other maintenance to your HVAC system.
Have The Ductwork Cleaned Out
The inside of the ductwork tends to be something that a lot of people forget about since it is out of sight. The thing is though, the inside of your ductwork can be covered in dust, dander, cat or dog hair, and even dead insects. There might even be the occasional dead mouse in there or the random crayon that a kid pushed through the vents. Either way, whatever is in your duct system is something you will want to have cleaned out. You do not want the warm forced air moving through all of that and then entering the rooms of your home for you and your loved ones to inhale. Those with allergies or breathing problems such as emphysema will find that they can breathe a lot better when the ductwork is cleaned out once a year by professionals.
Ask To Have The Furnace Serviced
Whether your furnace is new or a little on the old side, you will want to have it serviced by a professional HVAC company about once a year. They will make sure that all of the wiring inside of the furnace is still secured properly. They can vacuum out any spider webs that were spun in and around your furnace. The HVAC crew will also make sure that the motor and fan are still in optimal working order. The goal is to keep things in good working order and to spot issues that need to be dealt with before the cold weather hits.
Find an HVAC company near you and schedule an HVAC maintenance appointment as soon as possible.Share
